Food & Wine
As is the case in most parts of Italy, food and wine are taken very seriously in Le Marche.
The immediate area is well known for truffles and wild mushrooms as well as for wild boar. The region also produces many fine wines, little known outside Italy but of superb quality and astonishing variety. Matelica, just north of the house is famous for its Verdicchio, Serrapatrona for its Vernaccia, Monte Conero for the Rosso Conero. There are many local wineries to visit and excellent wines to try in our local restaurants.
There are lots of restaurants and pizzerias within ten or fifteen minutes drive of the house, some even closer. There are some sophisticated restaurants but most offer straightforward, well made traditional Italian food; fine pizzas, home made pasta served with truffles or wild boar, grilled meats and superb salamis and cured meats. The Villa Fornari is walking distance from the house and has excellent food, a very good wine list and is extremely friendly. There are several other places within ten minutes drive including the greatly loved pizzeria Pappafo.
